Bones

Bones are the oldest musical instrument in the archeological record.
Their is some dispute as to exactly how far they go back, but a conservative estimate is 22.000 years.
Bones are used to keep time and to do point, counterpoint percussion.
I use various woods to make the bones.
The differing tonal qualities of the wood are used to match different kinds of music.

Any of the bones can be used for almost any music, but over the years, I have learned a few things.
Cherry is a very bright but resonant sound. Red Oak is very solid sounding.
White Oak has a loud tenor quality where maple has a high baritone.
Walnut has a deep "click" sound that adds to appalachian and bluegrass quite readily.

The red cedar I use to make a softer sound and to back up singers in accapella music.
Thr only real advice I can offer is, "these are NOT spoons", and they do not play the same way.
